"With a focus on the Gothic genre, what role does the physical design play in regards to contemporary book culture?"
With the digital book growing in popularity, I would like to further explore the physicality of a paper-back book. The physical book can be experienced like the digital copy cannot; it can be touched and played with. I would therefore hope to produce a book cover that is on some level interactive. Perhaps I can produce a book jacket or cut into the pages of its front cover. These are ideas that will be considered later.
Learning outcomes:
- Research and critically evaluate a range of existing examples of book covers, saying what makes them successful or otherwise.
- Design and produce a book cover.
- Choose and use a range of design tools.
- Work responsibly with appropriate time-management technique.
- Highlight the positives of having a physical book.
- Look into the differences between the physical and digital copy and explain how our world is changing in their regard.
